The Online Backup Manager (OBM) is a client-side backup application that comes with the Microsoft SQL Database backup module. The Offsite Backup Server (OBS) is a backup server application for storing all the backup data.
For database with simple recovery model, only full database and differential database backups are allowed. To perform a transaction log backup, please change the corresponding databases' recovery model from simple to full.Simply install the OBM on the SQL Server that you intend to back up. The SQL Server selected for backup will be temporarily spooled to a temp directory before being uploaded to the backup server. It is recommended that the temporary directory have disk space of at least 120% of the total database size (e.g. total size of all database files).
Simply create a Microsoft SQL Server backup set in the Online Backup Manager (AhsayOBM) client-side backup application by selecting [MS SQL Server Backup] from the backup set type dropdown menu. Enter the name for this backup set, e.g. Backup Set.
Enter the corresponding information required.
Select the corresponding database for backup.
Configure the backup schedules. The OBM will create two default schedule initially. One is "Database - Complete Backup Schedule" and the other is "Transaction Log Backup Schedule". If these two schedules are not enough, you can add a new backup schedule by clicking [Add] button.
You can edit the settings of each backup schedule by selecting the appropriate schedule in the above screen and then click [Properties].
Configure the encryption settings in the following screen. By choosing "Default", the OBM will use the current password of the backup account as the encryption key. If you wish to define a unique encrytion key for this backup set, choose "Custom", and then configure the custom encryption settings.
When the above steps completed, the backup set has been created successfully.
Configure the temporary backup folder by clicking [Options] on menu. It is recommended that the temporary directory have disk space of at least 120% of the total database size (e.g. total size of all database files). It is also recommended that the temporary directory should be configured on a local drive, although a network attached drive is usable.
For SQL Server database with Windows Authentication mode, you need to configure the [User Authentication for Windows] setting in the [General] setting page of the OBM. Simply enter the login credentials of a Windows account with sufficient permission to access the MS SQL databases server
When completed, the backup set has been configured successfully, and backup jobs will be started automatically as defined in the backup schedules.
You can trigger a backup job manually by clicking the [Backup] button.
Select the appropriate backup set, and the backup type, i.e. Database or Transaction Log.
SQL database will be backed up to the OBS.
Click [Restore] button in the OBM.
Select the appropriate backup set for Microsoft SQL Server in OBM.
Select the SQL database that you want to restore from the the OBS. Select the destination for the restore, e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\administrator., and then click [Start Restore] button.
SQL database will be restored to your specified location from the the OBS.
